Phil Walnock

Operations Manager

Phil Walnock – Charitable Giving

Phil Walnock is an experienced operations executive in the electric utility and telecommunications industries. He has long experience in large scale project management, contract management, and in the supervision of large numbers of employees.

He has had a long and successful career, but is aware of how fortunate he has been in life. Because this, he is a committed supporter of the United Way, the nonprofit organization that works with some twelve hundred local United Way offices around the United States. These offices pool their fundraising efforts, and identify the most pressing issues faced by communities across the country.

While the United Way mission is clear, many people do not have a clear idea of what it is they do. “Right here in the office, we have three direct services that we offer, that really could be their own non-profits or agency programs,” a United Way employee explained. “They are 2-1-1, Volunteer Solutions, and Teaming for Technology.”

2-1-1 is a free telephone number that people can call for information about agencies and programs that help with problems. Volunteer Solutions is a web portal that other nonprofits can use to post volunteer opportunities. And Teaming for Technology is a program that collects used computers and refurbishes them, and gets them to people who would otherwise not have access to a computer.

And then there is fundraising. “We fundraise year-round,” the United Way employee explained, “but have a heightened season from September to November each year called the Campaign season. The money we raise is then allocated to over 150 programs at our eighty-eight partner agencies.”

Phil Walnock is committed to supporting the United Way.

Phil Walnock – Relax On The Water

Phil Walnock worked hard to build a successful career in the electric utility industry. Known for his relentless motivation to achieve his professional goals, he is a senior operations manager now, having held a number of managerial positions before to get there. When he’s not working, Walnock likes to relax on the water with a fishing rod between his legs.

After earning his Bachelor’s degree from East Stroudsburg University, Phil Walnock began his career in telecommunications as a union cable splicer. Later on, he earned a Master’s of Science in Management from the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey as well as an Executive Graduate Certificate in Corporate Entrepreneurship from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He learned a great deal and gained stellar experience through his post-graduate endeavors, but throughout it all, Walnock never stopped fishing. He has always enjoyed the challenge of catching a fish and it’s a great hobby if you’re just trying to relax and be one with nature.

There are several different categories and difficulty levels of fishing. If you are new to fishing, don’t start with fly or deep-sea fishing because each requires a certain capacity of experience and skill. Try river or lake fishing instead, because they are fairly easy to master. All you need to do is purchase a good rod and gather a little information about what type of bait you should be using. The simplicity of the hobby is one of its biggest strengths.

If Phil Walnock isn’t working or at Walt Disney World with his family, he’s probably fishing. He loves to relax on the water and calm his mind.

Phil Walnock – Leader In Vegetation Management

Phil Walnock is an experienced operations executive who has held an impressive number of leadership roles in the telecommunications and electric utilities industries. A native of Allentown, Pennsylvania, Walnock has developed a superb reputation as a hard-working, passionate individual and as a leader in vegetation management. Vegetation management – an important field that serves thousands – works within the electric utility industry. Walnock knows if you want to be a leader in vegetation management, you must have an extensive knowledge base, top-notch communication skills and an exceptional leadership acumen.

Vegetation management involves controlling or manipulating vegetation, such as trees and bushes, in order to achieve a desired result. Most cities have electrical lines that run throughout populated areas in order to provide residents with electricity. Unruly vegetation can have a major negative impact on these lines, especially if there are adverse weather conditions.

Electric utility companies must hire professionals to trim trees and clear brush in areas where new electrical lines will run, and for those projects to be completed in-time and within budget, they require industrious managers like Phil Walnock. Also, if a tree or branch falls on an electrical line, then a community can lose their power, and it could even result in a fire. It is the job of utility professionals to identify these hazardous trees and remove them in order to prevent future issues.

Vegetation management functions under a broad umbrella referring to several different tasks and responsibilities like minimizing hazardous situations caused by vegetation issues and power lines. Phil Walnock is a highly respected leader in vegetation management.

Phil Walnock – Pride

Phil Walnock looks back on his professional life with pride. He worked his way through college and then built a successful career, always propelling himself forward. But looking back, Walnock realizes he had many wonderful role models who dispensed useful advice and inspired him, and he strives to act as a reliable role model to others as well.

After graduating from college, Phil Walnock worked as a union cable splicer. In no time he was promoted, moving into the management level. He gained a lot of experience in the telecommunications and electric utility industries while working as an experienced supervisor and senior manager. Walnock advanced his career even further by returning to school. He earned a Master of Science in Management from the Stevens Institute of Technology as well as an Executive Graduate Certificate from Lehigh University. He has worked in contract negotiations, contract management, etc., throughout his career, including when he was doing post-undergraduate work.

As Walnock’s garnered more success, he’s realized the importance of remaining humble and giving back. He volunteers his time coaching youth and middle school athletic teams, working hard to be the best role model possible for his mentees every day. Walnock understands that involved adults have wide-ranging effects on children’s lives so it is important for parents, coaches, etc. to always be in “role model” mode. Role models often embody a number of common, positive personality qualities, that’s why Walnock always tries to live as his best self and set an ideal example.

Role models are often caring individuals. They care enough to either have children themselves or be heavily involved in a child’s life. Whatever the adult’s “role,” they take a keen interest in a young person’s life and desire to help them improve. Walnock is passionate in helping to lead his young players down the right path toward a prosperous and happy future.

Also, role models are normally very approachable and trustworthy. If an adult is a true role model, adolescents will naturally feel comfortable confiding in that person and value their advice. They will feel no hesitation in asking a perceived role model for help, and it’s true that countless young adults turn to role models for counsel on how to deal with academic, familial or social issues.

Outside of his busy professional life, Walnock works hard to be a reliable guide and strong role model. He possesses a “pay it forward” mentality, helping young people out since he’s established and successful now, just as role models helped him when he was kick-starting his career, finding his footing, etc. Phil Walnock is filled with pride when he considers his past and present success.
